Montrail Mountain Masochist

Turkey Flats Testing Grounds

This has been a trail running mainstay for a while now.  The men’s Mountain Masochist is lightweight, dries quickly, and is known for its traction.

The Good

This years colors are very striking (grey and green).  The tread provides excellent traction on most trail surfaces.  On long days the padding and support of the sole provided protection to help break out the extra miles.  Over all great trail running shoe, which will work well for fast packing and hiking.

The Bad

The tread pattern did not perform well given sticky mud conditions.  Mud collected on the underside of the shoe making each foot heavy and clearing the tread was difficult.

Shoelaces had a tendency to come untied.  They are heafty and well made, but they take some time to break in; double knotting was a must.
